Entrepreneur Thatiana Rangel, founder and owner of Soul Sweet Boutique, is boldly expanding her Newark-based business.
Newark, New Jersey, is home to many Portuguese and Brazilian owned businesses and some of the best ethnic restaurants featuring Portuguese and Brazilian dishes are based in this city, specifically in Newark’s Ironbound district.
I think that this bakery's decadent Gourmet Cakes in a Jar, Cheesecake in a Jar, Brigadeiros, Honey Cakes, Cookies, Cocadas and Meringues have a place on everyone's table whether it is Holiday time or not.
Samples of the Pineapple-o-Cream and Strawberry-o-Cream cakes in a jar, and a jar of Nhoque Sussu cookies, a sweet gnocchi based on the recipe of Ms. Rangel’s godmother, were delivered to our office for evaluation.
The day after delivery, I tasted the Strawberry-o-Cream and thought it was very very nice, very similar to the strawberry and cream tarts I used to have as elevenses together with a demitasse of Greek (Turkish) coffee when I lived in Athens and worked in my father's import business. Since Greek breakfast usually consists of only a Greek coffee demitasse, there was a patisserie near the business called “The Brazilian” where I would go for elevenses and have a more substantial breakfast; either a grilled ham and cheese sandwich called “tost” (sic) or a pastry, as well as meeting with friends who worked nearby to plan what we would do that evening.
After the holidays, when things calm down, I plan to visit the bakery in person to try some of the products I’m not familiar with, such as Brigadeiros, Honey Cakes and Cocadas and I’ll report the results at that time.
