Sofitel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills

When I visit Los Angeles, I like to stay in West Hollywood because it’s easy to get from there to Hollywood in the east, as well as to the west side, including Rodeo Drive, Century City, and Santa Monica.Sofitel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills is perfectly located at the border of West Hollywood and Beverly Hills. At the corner of Beverly Blvd. and LaCienega Blvd., it’s directly across the street from the famed Beverly Center and surrounded by numerous dining options.
Despite the hotel’s busy locale, my room was very quiet. I didn’t hear street noise or my adjacent neighbors. The 10-floor, 295-room property has a variety of room types, including 26 suites. I stayed in one of the smaller rooms with a king bed, but it was spacious enough to hold a desk and two chairs. I especially enjoyed the bath with the square sink, walk-in shower, and orange amber Lanvin amenities. The only thing missing was a bathtub.
What I like most about Sofitel properties, however, are their beds and linens. I believe they’re the most comfortable of any hotel group I’ve experienced.
Complimentary Wi-Fi was provided in both public areas and rooms. (I’ve gotten to the point that I think it’s unforgivable for a hotel in 2016 to charge for Wi-Fi anywhere within the property.) Of course, my room also included a plush bathrobe, slippers, minibar, widescreen TV, and safe.
Sofitel Los Angeles has an outdoor heated pool and deck, which, considering the recent heat wave in L.A., is a great way to cool off without having to resort to staying indoors in the air conditioning. You will also find a fitness center, hair salon, and full service spa on the property.
The hotel’s Estérel Restaurant is helmed by Chef Victor Boroda with shared plates, flatbreads, salads, soups, and main dish plates. The Restaurant was an Open Table Diners’ Choice winner in 2016, and it’s certified by the City of Los Angeles as a green business. Eat al fresco on its French garden patio extension called Le Jardin with growing herbs, fountains, a flowered trellis, and a driftwood bar.
The current dinner menu contains a surprising 17 gluten-free items, nine vegetarian items, and four low-calorie dishes, ensuring that everyone in your party will find something to order. The pan-seared steelhead salmon includes smashed fingerling potatoes, snap peas, dill pistou, and crème fraiche. Or try the vegetable tagine with Israeli couscous, squash, garbanzo beans, apricots, cauliflower, and chermoula. If you’re looking for a place to have brunch, Estérel serves from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
The hotel’s Riviera 31 Bar is a cocktail lounge with entertainment every night from jazz to burlesque to cabaret to DJs, depending on the night. The menu is Mediterranean tapas, and the décor includes Edward Quinn photographs of the French Riviera.
Mixologist Frederic Zernmour creates unusual seasonal drinks, sometimes with an appropriate Mexican flavor. These include “La Rosa Picante” with El Jimador Tequila, rose water, jalapeño, ginger, and lime or “Rest in Pease” with El Silencio Mezcal, Midori, lime, and the surprising addition of snap peas. Food items at Riviera 31 to complement the drinks run the gamut from Black Angus sliders to vegetarian cauliflower steaks with lemon chili vinaigrette.
Sofitel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills has 22,000 square feet of space for events, including two private dining rooms in the restaurant. This amount of space in its prime location means it’s frequently used for holiday parties and events. The décor and lighting make the place look festive even before they add holiday decorations.
My stay at the Sofitel was excellent. The service was top-notch, and the building is well-maintained. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again or use its facilities for an event.
